An exciting opportunity from Newport County AFC
We at Newport County AFC are trying to keep young people and families connected to their community. We do that through a number of initiatives. We offer Clwb Spytty and Teen Exiles memberships. Clwb Spytty is aimed at 0-11 year olds and Teen Exiles 12-16 year olds.
We appreciate that sometimes friendships are not always easy to make for young people, that they enjoy sport as an outlet for many emotions as well as keeping fit, active and for their emotional wellbeing.
Throughout lockdown we have been in regular contact with our young members and their families to also offer help and support, as well as activity packs that they can complete at home and updates from the club to help to keep them connected. We encourage friendship and kindness, and during last season it was truly wonderful to see some very shy young people turn into resilient and confident young people and we are looking to still build on that in the coming season. We have also been able to signpost some of our young supporters to external agencies such as Kidscape as they were concerned about the transition to high school and also for help with bullying. We have also been able to signpost to JDRF, which is a juvenile type 1 diabetes charity for help and support.
The way we do this is by offering a membership to young people, which will give them a lot of opportunities throughout the season to participate in money can't buy opportunities (Covid allowing) as well as that external friendship group. We also engage young people in awareness sessions such as Show Racism the Red Card, World Mental Health Day, Alzheimers Awareness, Anti Bullying Week to name a few, and work together with a number of charities to provide resources and match day engagement around these topics. That may look a little different this season, but the messages will still be going out to our young members. All of our staff and volunteers that engage with young people are DBS checked and also have a safeguarding qualification.
We know that it will take some time for young people to settle back in to their day to day routine and that many of their external activities will still remain unavailable to them during Covid restrictions, so we would love to be able to offer this membership to your pupils so they also have something to look forward to and be a part of externally.
